The Waiting Room Lounge - NE | Omaha, Nebraska

Carbon Leaf

Live on Sunday, October 13, the Waiting Room Lounge of Omaha’s nightlife district will host a jam session down memory lane featuring Carbon Leaf’s new Time Is The Playground LP! A staple in folk-rock scenes, our headlining band will enthrall audiences with tales of time and love and the epiphanies of growing up.

Frontman Barry Privett and his bandmates will play an ode to the wondrous mysteries of the 80s in their single “Backmask 1983,” with joyously nostalgic follow-ups in “You And Me” and “California Gold.” Carbon Leaf rose to renown through indie music that honors Celtic and Americana traditions. Witness the reputation that precedes them, one that won an American Music Award and established them as a powerhouse presence on stage.

From Triple-A classics like “The Boxer” and “Life Less Ordinary” to the acclaimed Indian Summer album, Carbon Leaf is a must-hear, especially on their ongoing US tour this fall. Buy your tickets today!

For much of their decades-long tenure, Carbon Leaf spun music that mingles sun-dappled energy with the understated hues of fall. 2024’s no different. Join them and jump into the leaf pile. This year, the United States will jam with the indie rock outfit in almost 40 shows heading deep into December until a hometown finale four days before Christmas in Richmond, VA. But before then, they will headline autumn dates in major cities in the Midwest, stopping by Omaha on October 13th for a gig here at the Waiting Room Lounge!

Now underway, Carbon Leaf’s tour supports its namesake album, Time Is The Playground, their first full-length record in a decade, in all its rousing, folk-infused nostalgia. Listen to its rumination of past and present, melding nuanced melodies by band musicians Terry Clark, Carter Gravatt, Jon Markel, and Jesse Humphrey with indie rock attitudes a la “carpe diem” and “c'est la vie.” Out of the twelve songs, the Gen X crowd expects one highlight hit in the upcoming performance.

Take a plunge into “Backmask 1983,” a rollicking throwback track that traverses the boyhood emblems of lead vocalist Barry Privett. The mysteries and wonders of the 80s, from Bigfoot to Farrah Fawcett to NASA rockets, played to you in pulpy synths and saturated AC/DC riffs. These winners of the coveted American Music Award also offer the crisp ballad of “You and Me,” “California Gold,” and the stride-carrying “Monday Night in Germantown,” among other timeless gems sure to have you reminiscing.

Carbon Leaf is a bonafide aughts icon who transcended its indie rock roots, acclaimed for the AMA New Music Award-winning single “The Boxer” and Billboard AAA Top 5 hit “Life Less Ordinary.” Ever gracious performers, the band may offer a taste of these classics from LPs Indian Summer, Love, Loss, Hope, Repeat, etc., in a jam session that’s more than a romp but an experience bursting with folksy charm, whimsical Americana tunes, and Celtic tradition.
